Making a referral

Referrals can be made via a web form (click the button below).

We will generally respond to referrals within one to two days.

Please complete the client’s name and date of birth, as well as the other party's name and date of birth (where possible). This information is needed to conduct a conflict of interest check before providing assistance to the client. If a conflict of interest is identified, we will refer your client to another legal service that may be able to assist.

Mandatory questions are highlighted with the * symbol. For non-mandatory questions,  please provide as much information as possible to streamline our triage process. If you are unable to provide this information, the referral will still be accepted.

Secondary consultations

If you are unsure about whether your client needs legal assistance, or you would like some general information about the application of law and/or legal processes, we can arrange for you to chat with one of our lawyers.

To arrange a secondary consult, contact NCLC’s Projects Coordinator: fclark@northernclc.org.au

Conducting a legal health check

Often clients have a range of everyday problems that have a legal resolution. The Legal Health Check is a tool designed to assist community workers and their clients to identify legal need so that they can be connected to a free community lawyer for legal assistance. By incorporating the Legal Health Check tool into intake or case-management procedures, service providers can ensure that legal problems are identified early so that they can be addressed early, before they escalate into bigger life problems. NCLC can provide free training to service providers in our catchment on identification of legal issues and using the Legal Health Check tool.

Resources to support client engagement with legal assistance

To support client engagement with legal assistance, NCLC has developed video resources on what to expect when you see a lawyer.  The videos have been designed to help clients prepare for their appointment, know what to expect, and feel assured that the information they provide will be confidential and that they will be in control of the process.
