Young Women's Economic Empowerment Project (RISE)
Young women, including young mothers and young newly arrived women, are an increasing proportion of NCLC family violence clients, with financial abuse and financial dependence being reported as significant barriers to leaving an abusive relationship. Funded by the Victorian Legal Services Board, this project aims to provide targeted legal support to young women under 25 who are experiencing family violence. This support will be embedded and integrated within local women’s health settings.
The project will incorporate the delivery of co-designed capability-building workshops that promote financial independence and build young women’s confidence in navigating Australian civil and family law systems. Employing a Youth Family Violence Lawyer and Project Lawyer, the project aims to enhance resilience, safety and economic stability for vulnerable young women during key transitional stages of their lives.
